Teacher survives two bouts with cancer
July 7th, Star Herald, Joe Duitton reported, “She felt uncomfortable with the suggestion and decided to get a position emission tomography scan rather than just a CT scan. The PET scan would look over her whole body instead of just her liver and lungs. After her insurance company refused to cover the PET scan, she decided to have it done at her own $1,600 out-of-pocket expense. After the PET scan, her oncologist assured her that her liver and lungs looked fine, but they needed to investigate a spot on her breast. They performed a mammogram, but had no clear results. They then performed a breast ultrasound and found the spot that was detected on the PET scan. After a needle core biopsy, they found that she had triple negative breast cancer.”
