When a clinic is working to detect or treat cancers, heart disease, or brain disorders, it cannot overlook the importance of having a functioning scanner on site. The Siemens PET CT Biograph 16 is a strong piece of equipment to fill this need for a clinic. Purchasing one is a sensible decision for the outlook of the clinic as a whole; and the company the purchase is made from must be trustworthy.
How can you be confident that the company you are working with is providing you with reliable equipment you can count on? Especially when purchasing refurbished scanners, you need to be certain the company working with them knows what they are doing. Here, we will discuss some of the signs you should look for in a company when you are looking to purchase any Siemens PET CT scanner—including this Siemens PET CT Biograph scanner.
Expertise in the products is an essential part of any industry, but it is all the more important when working with equipment that people depend on for healthcare. We rely on these pieces of equipment every day to give us reliable answers to life-impacting questions.
Is the company you are purchasing from talking about what they do? There should be a place that showcases their experience and expertise. Whether it is a reference to their client history, documentation of their knowledge in the field, or proof of their education and experience, there should be no question in your mind that the company you choose is skilled, reputable and professional.
If you are going to this company for the first time, make sure you can rely on them in the future. When you discuss the purchase of any Siemens PET CT scanner, ensure that you are talking to a company that can provide maintenance and training on the equipment, as well. It is inevitable that you will need further assistance with your equipment, and you shouldn’t have to look for another company to do it. Make your life easier by working with a company that can provide a full range of service
If a company provides you with a good product, that does not necessarily indicate that they will provide you with good service in the future. Of course, it would be preferable to go to the same company again and again, but if their training is not as good as their maintenance or sales, do not hesitate to look elsewhere to meet your total servicing needs.
At Marquis Medical, we provide a comprehensive list of services. Across our service departments, we have experts in the field prepared to work with you to provide the best and latest information available. The right help makes everything better.

One of the advantages of this 64-slice scanner is decreased scan time. More slices means more images are captured with every rotation of the scanner.
“The Scanner creates 64 high-resolution anatomical images per rotation. This will decrease scan times to several seconds, less than 15 seconds in most cases. The slices are as thin as a credit card and support advanced cardiac studies, among other studies. These images are combined to form a three dimensional view of the patient’s anatomy, allowing physicians to view such things as blockages in the coronary arteries, as well as the motion and pumping action of a patient’s heart.”

Before undergoing a PET/CT scan, the patient will be injected with or consume a small amount of radioactive material. The patient will then enter the Siemens Biograph PET CT scanner. As the radioactive material is metabolized in the body of the patient, the CT scan takes many pictures of the inside of the body from different angles. In the case of the Biograph 64, 64 images are produced in under 1 second. It usually takes about 15 seconds to complete a scan of the area being studied, resulting in hundreds of images that, taken together, provide a detailed view of the inside of the patient’s body.
Meanwhile, the PET scan is also happening. PET captures images of the radioactive substance as it travels through the body.
“Your organs and tissues pick up this substance. And areas that use more energy pick up more. Cancer cells pick up a lot, because they tend to use more energy than healthy cells. The PET scan shows where the radioactive substance is in your body.”

Siemens recognized the need for a more affordable PET/CT scanner, and responded by developing the Siemens Biograph Horizon.
The Biograph Horizon has a bore diameter of 70 cm, a tunnel length of 130 cm, and a table capacity of 500 lbs. Available in either 16 or 32 slices, this system delivers excellent image quality in just 60 seconds per bed position. High-resolution, 4mm crystal elements support detection of small lesions. A smaller crystal leads to better spatial resolution, and this Siemens Horizon PET machine’s detector array uses over 20,000 of them. This helps to visualize small lesions and therefore make better treatment decisions.
Also in the Biograph Horizon, a powerful computer system capable of reconstructing two data sets simultaneously delivers images as fast as 30 seconds after the completion of the scan. Time-of-Flight measures the actual time difference between the detection of each coincidence photon. By localizing the event within a small range along each line of response, this system enables faster scans, improved image quality, and lower injected doses.

PET/CT has become essential technology relied upon by healthcare providers and patients worldwide. Whether digital or analog, all PET/CT systems capture detailed images of the human body’s inner workings. The patient is injected with a small amount of nuclear material, which breaks down as the body metabolizes it. In areas of unusual metabolic activity, such as cancerous tumors, the nuclear material will concentrate. Images produced by PET/CT show this concentration, giving doctors critical information about the presence and spread of disease in the body earlier and with more accuracy than other medical imaging technology is capable of.
One of the advantages of digital PET technology, such as you will find in Siemens digital PET scan models, is that scan time is significantly shorter. This makes for improved patient experience, as well as better quality images, because patients are less likely to move during the shorter scan. Digital PET also produces high quality images, and is especially well suited to detecting small lesions.
PET technology dates back to the 1970s, and many PET scanners today rely on the analog technology developed at that time: photomultiplier tubes, which record scintillation flashes. But digital PET is different. Here is how IT Online describes the workings of a digital PET CT system:
“Data for its PET images are obtained from solid-state silicon tiles, which are arranged in a many-sided polygon that encircles the patient. Light sensors and data processing arrays are hardwired into these tiles. Putting them together makes photon counting fast, accurate and free from the electronic noise produced in analog systems.”
