SNMMI publishes appropriate use criteria for V/Q imaging in pulmonary embolism

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has published appropriate use criteria for ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) imaging in pulmonary embolism (PE). This is the second in a series of new AUC developed by SNMMI in its role as a qualified provider-led entity (PLE) under the Medicare Appropriate Use Criteria program for advanced diagnostic imaging. Adding PET to diagnostic CT can significantly increase the sensitivity of both abdominal and pelvic imaging in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer.  According to a prospective multi-center study, published in Radiology, fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/diagnostic CT increased the ability to identify abdominal lymph node metastasis. {read more here}

Achieving a complete response (CR) following ABVD chemotherapy offered the best chance for survival for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who developed Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) following Richter transformation, according to a retrospective study published in the American Journal of Hematology.  

Patients with advanced disease should be investigated by PET/CT and positive lymph nodes should be biopsied, said Mauro, who works in the Department of Cellular Biotechnologies and Hematology at Sapienza University in Rome, Italy. {read more here}

Florbetapir-PET scans show that midlife adults with two or more vascular risk factors are significantly more likely to have greater levels of amyloid deposits in their brains later in life than peers with no such risk factors, according to a study published April 11 in the Journal of the American Medical Association. {read more here}
