Early diagnosis, staging of Alzheimer’s disease seen in PET scans

Researchers have visualized the development ofAlzheimer’s disease in the brain in living people using positron emission tomography, or PET scans, which they say will aid with its diagnosis and treatment. {read more here}

A recent study, reported in the March issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, found evidence that genetic influence on cerebral glucose metabolism played a major role in the bilateral parietal lobes and the left temporal lobe of the human brain, while environmental influences after birth dominated in other regions. {read more here}

A three-month follow-up PET/CT scan is very helpful for detecting the recurrence of oropharyngeal cancer and predicting the overall survival of patients treated with radiation therapy, according to a study presented at the recent American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancer Symposium in Scottsdale, AZ. {read more here}
